Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Storyline OP Rarities

Hi HeroClix fans!

We’ve uncovered an issue in the printed rarities of some of the figures in the Marvel HeroClix: Civil War Storyline Organized Play set. This doesn’t change the respective figures’ insertion rates into the product.  However, we know many players will be collecting and trading for these figures, or choosing them in draft order, we wanted to make sure the correct information was available so players can make decisions with full information (if they choose to use it). The neutral figures all appear to be common, when they have their own rarity distribution. The actual rarities of these figures as they appear in boosters are as follows:

Why have rarity?

When players open a HeroClix pack, we want to communicate to them the scarcity of what they’re holding. It lets them know how desirable it is to others, how likely they are to get a duplicate, and an indicator of how valuable it may be that isn’t demonstrated through the gameplay information. Furthermore, having rarity lets us include awesome, special figures and complex sculpts. It lets us deliver the most recognizable characters to casual fans, but also include alternate versions (like Captain Ironmerica) that hardcore comic fans and HeroClix veterans will love.

How does this happen?

One of our automated product steps set the rarity of the tab on the base to common in the database for this subset of figures only. It unfortunately slipped through the cracks in proofing as the next step checked against the file that was incorrectly filled.  We’ve instituted a step moving forward where a check will occur against the original design document to ensure it doesn’t happen again.
