Greetings HeroClix Masterminds!
WizKids is introducing Vault Boosters alongside the release of Batman: Fight for Gotham City, and they’re shaping up to be a big deal. Vault Boosters are premium boosters that contain exclusive figures, vehicles, equipment, terrain, one-shots, and team-up cards, all packed into eight unique, thematic combinations.
Vault Boosters are specially designed to allow players who love collecting HeroClix a chance to obtain more game pieces without radically changing the regular booster configuration, as well as giving a ton of thematic options to teambuilders. Unlike standard HeroClix boosters, which have a large number of configurations, Vault Boosters have only 8 different, but totally unique, combinations!
Let’s take a closer look at one of those vault combinations featuring the Bat Family.
The Bat Family
This Vault Booster features a Batman with a unique sculpt and an exclusive dial, designed to pair perfectly with his booster companion, Batgirl. As you can see, this is a mobile Batman who can move half his speed after attacking, allowing him to get into hindering terrain to make use of the Batman Team ability.
When played on a Batman Family theme team, the included Team-Up card allows you to place Batman on the map on turn two — an excellent way to get into the action and spare Batman from your opponent’s alpha strike.
Batgirl synergizes well with Batman as she has a trait granting you the ability to swap places when either Batgirl or a figure named Batman is given an action resolving within her range. Her special power gives a free Smoke Cloud when placed with this trait, giving you control of the battle flow.
Both Batman and Batgirl can both be equipped with either the Smoke Grenade or Utility Belt for free. The Smoke Grenade offers protection for your squad, granting stealth to friendlies occupying the smoke and keeps your smoke grenadier in the fight as they can move 2 squares after the resolution of Smoke Cloud.
The Utility Belt makes use of the new one-shots in this set, giving you access to a free one-shot that doesn’t count against your sideline limit, and the ability to flip one-shots back over for reuse. Here we have the Shark Repellent that allows you to use Force Blast as Free against figures with the dolphin symbol, and knock back damage is penetrating (take THAT Avatar of Animal Man).
Prefer a more mobile approach?
Equip the Batcycle instead to gain Sidestep and Perplex and +1 to movement, letting Batman reposition easily while boosting key stats when it matters most. Maybe you’d rather have Hypersonic Speed and Willpower? Maybe you need even more Smoke Cloud? Make that call at the beginning of the game, and you can put a Batcycle on every member of your team, because the Batcycle is not unique. Even better, if you’re equipping the Batcycle to a figure with the Batman Family keyword, it’s free!
Rounding out the booster are two unique terrain pieces that help reinforce the theme. We have a gargoyle, the perfect perch for Batman to brood beside while surveying Gotham below. The Rooftop, costing 5 points, also doles out Leap/Climb when starting your movement on the elevated terrain, making it easier to traverse maps with difficult terrain. Any character occupying the Rooftop that can already use Leap/Climb removes an action token at the beginning of their turn.
Altogether, this Vault Booster delivers strong thematic flavor, flexible gameplay options, and some very cool exclusives — exactly what Bat Family fans are looking for. What will drive you to open Vault Boosters – are you an avid collector, or someone eager to develop the next big combo? Whatever your motivation, don’t miss out on Fight for Gotham City Vault Boosters this Summer!
