Last time we reviewed equipment and the all-new One-Shot cards. Today we’ll be dialing in on some of the ways Collector’s Trove impacts a fan-favorite format: Pulp!
WHAT IS PULP?
Pulp focuses on widely available figures, keeping teams easy to collect. Players will be able to have a team or two together at once to practice with friends. For more information on Pulp, check out this page.
STELLAR TEAMWORK
Building thematic teams is one of the most fun cornerstones of HeroClix and the first step on the road to epic superhero combat. The design team likes to reward this behavior with strong options to help beginners find the fun.
With Collector’s Trove, the design team decided to lean into the “found family” vibe of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Many of the Guardians have a trait like Star-Lord’s “We’re Trying to Save These People”; as your rag-tag roster of space vigilantes expands, so do the powers they have available. For Star-Lord, that means +1 speed to all your Guardians of the Galaxy. They’ll also get Willpower if you have at least three Guardians. Those Guardians might have their own versions of this trait too, like Cosmo who grants your Guardians SAFEGUARD: Outwit and +1 defense.
With the ability to stack up bonuses, the Guardians of the Galaxy are going to be a potent force in many formats, especially Pulp! Guardians Theme isn’t the only new archetype that Collector’s Trove brings to Pulp, though…
HARNESSING THE INEVITABLE
Coming in at either 300 or 150 points, Thanos could be your entire team for a Pulp event. With a killer 10/14/20/5 stat line, few characters can withstand a hit from the Mad Titan. What really sets Thanos apart, though, is his Astral Regulator trait. With it, every turn Thanos can choose a power a Cosmic or Deity character on your Sideline has on their card, which he gets to use until your next turn. With some careful team building you can make a Sideline that guarantees him access to almost every power!
Whether you want to build a team with lots of figures that can work together to overcome any challenge, to present your opponent a single insurmountable challenge, or anything in between, Collector’s Trove offers fun new ways to spice up your Pulp team building!
