Greetings, HeroClix Masterminds!

Following the release of Marvel HeroClix: Collector’s Trove, we have an updated Comprehensive Rulebook. The majority of the updates are just housekeeping; updating the phrasing of certain passages to better reflect WIN rulings or formally adding the rules for the new One-Shot cards.

Two changes warrant addressing directly:

  • With this edition of the Comprehensive Rules, the Equip: Friendly and Unequip: KO equipment keyphrases are being retired. From this point on, any equipment can be picked up and equipped by any character that can equip equipment, and all equipment is dropped when it’s unequipped, even if no keyphrases are printed on the equipment. We’ve been gradually phasing out Equip: Friendly and Unequip: KO for a while now, as they can create confusing rules questions when they encounter other effects that interact with equipment.
  • Secondly, when a bystander is generated by a character, that bystander gains the keywords of the character that generated it. With effects that care about keywords becoming more prevalent in sets, this allows teams to have greater synergy than ever before.

Here is a breakdown of the changes we made:

  • 11.3b: Clarified that characters are always within range of themselves.
  • 14.1: Rephrased for clarity.
  • 12.6e: Clarified that characters that are knocked back the full amount but change elevation at the last square take “falling” knockback damage.
  • 17.11a/b: CLOSE/RANGE Terrain Actions now mirror the PAC.
  • 20.3: Rephrased for clarity.
  • 20.6e: Clarified how “even if lost” interacts with durations that grant the use of powers & abilities.
  • 21.14: Added a section for “End the Turn” effects.
  • 21.10a: Expanded the rules for breaking highest/lowest point character ties.
  • 21.9d: Clarified how self-referential names work in copied or otherwise granted powers and abilities.
  • 24.1a: Bystanders now gain the keywords of the character that generated them.
  • 25.11: Added One-Shot rules.
  • 25.2c-e: Removed Equipment keyphrases. All equipment can be equipped regardless of what force it is friendly to, and all equipment is dropped when unequipped.
