To help get your excitement for this year dialed up, here’s a tale of one attendee’s journey in 2023, along with some great pictures, from Fan Intern finalist Mark Berger.

Worlds 2023 Trip

My name is Mark Berger. I joined my local HeroClix community in Redmond, Washington at Uncle’s Games in 2019 with the Marvel HeroClix: Earth X set. The idea of going to Worlds for the first time in 2023 was thrilling. Our group of six players planned our drive from Washington state all the way to Memphis, Tennessee.

We gathered in Redmond on Monday morning where we began our long drive. We travelled through multiple Midwestern states non-stop and after two-and-a-half days, we arrived.

Our first day at Worlds started early as we walked over from The Guest House at Graceland. We arrived and I was dancing with anticipation to do some Battle Royales with the new set and get some of the Con Limited Edition promos. My goal: to get Thorgwen and Venom, God of Symbiotes from the prize LEs. Everyone else around us was also excited!

I got to meet many players from all around the country. It was amazing how friendly everyone was and how each of us enjoyed the game. The doors opened as we lined up to purchase figures. I was made my purchase before heading to the Battle Royales.

Each game was a blast. I really enjoyed playing Zod whenever I was fortunate enough to see him, and the goons were amazing! My favorite goon was the Joker Goon. By the end of the first day, I had so much fun that I had trouble sleeping.

Friday was amazing as well as I continued to play Battle Royales, got some great pulls, and was able to win my first Con LE, Thorgwen! In one of my games, I ran into the middle of a brawl in an indoor map and pulse-waved almost everyone in sight with Lightning Lord. It was an explosive game and everyone had a great time. After the intense and invigorating matches, the day ended with previews of the future of HeroClix at the Fan Appreciation Event. I was delighted to see the spoilers for the upcoming sets. Seeing Doomsday, Khonshu, and the Sherlock Holmes set was especially exhilarating.

On Saturday, I continued with more Battle Royales, trying my best to get Venom, God of Symbiotes. I won Superman in the battle in which I drafted my best team of the weekend: Deadshot, Saturn Queen, Lincoln March, Scarecrow, and a Joker Goon. The team was wild, flying across the map. After winning Superman, I happily achieved my goal by trading the Superman and some of my Battle Royale pulls for Venom, God of Symbiotes.

As Worlds slowed down on Sunday, I decided to play a couple more Battle Royales and take some time to look through Troll & Toads’ shop. There were many older figures I’ve seen at my local game stores but haven’t had the chance to get. I was blessed to be able to pick up a Hammer of Thor Spider-man. Thus ended my Worlds trip, and I loved every minute of it!
