Our friends at Dial H will present some awesome team-building ideas each week leading up to WizKids Worlds! Here is a note from them:

Welcome back to another Dial H Creative Corner! This week we’ll look at utilizing the reduced sideline space of the Theme format, as well as one of the biggest threats in Pulp.

For more information on Theme, Pulp, and other HeroClix formats check out the article HERE.

In case you missed it, you can read last week’s Creative Construction article HERE.

Theme – Mystical

Kicking off this build is none other than the championship-winning figure, Scarlet Witch. Her ability to generate the Chaos Marker is second to none in HeroClix, and she’s got the help necessary to really make it hurt. Blackheart serves as a great follow up attacker, with the map bonus Reign of Terror helping out his chances of generating Hellfire Guards. For support, we have the legacy Green Lantern, who can limit the opposing team with generated Constructs and Felix Faust with the trait, A Deal Worthy of My Namesake. Tying the build together, we have Mad Jim Jaspers, who can swap in equipment on all of our equipped figures for extra reach, damage, or stat modifiers. Lastly, to add some extra power to the team, Wendigo and Tri-Sentinel serve as pieces your opponent must deal with quickly! This Mystical force packs in a lot of threats and can really punish your opponent for mispositioning.

Tarot Spotlight: High Priestess
Sometimes a re-roll is just what you need to land the final blow! The High Priestess will allow each player to re-roll a single d6 in a friendly character’s roll, including attack rolls. This tarot card is great to give you a little extra confidence on the battlefield.

Theme – X-Men

X-men has been a formidable HeroClix theme for decades, and in the Theme Format they’ll still have a solid foothold. A great place to start is with “X-Swap” from Professor X, allowing you to switch to more opportune characters depending on what your opponent is playing. As a bonus, sometimes the characters you swap out can benefit the team before they are replaced! Dazzler, for instance, grants two characters the S.H.I.E.L.D. Team Ability during force construction. This gives Dark Phoenix a 12 range and potentially 6 damage with the additional help of Enhancement from Hope Summers. Magneto’s team-up will provide plenty of Probability Control as well as denying opposing characters usage of several powers. Kate Pryde is a versatile taxi that also has the ability to Krakoan Revival most of the team if need be. Characters like Leech and Jubilee are great options to swap into occasionally but will require a different approach and tactics. Overall, this team gives you a lot of versatility in both offense and support, making it a great Swiss army knife to bring to the table.

Tarot Spotlight: Death
Nothing will slow your opponent down quite like Death. If you need a little help to make your hits count by preventing healing, this tarot can be the key to your strategy. Just be careful that Death doesn’t come for you, too!

Pulp – Hulkstroke

Some teams take finesse, others have brute force. This is the latter! Deathstroke can use Pulse Wave can get around the stacked defenses, while the Hulk can grab some terrain and easily dish out seven damage when combined with his Close Combat Expert. The change to Avengers Team Ability (that Deathstroke can copy with his Team Player) can also easily net a 14 attack for the Hulk. Falcon brings the team together with his ability to place either of these two up to eight squares away, allowing this team to close the gap and take out the biggest threats before it is too late. Raven makes up for any distance that wasn’t covered and upon KO can bring in a third threat with Red Raven. Aunt May rounds out the last 10 points, with her job being to keep the team healed up on the off chance the opposing team hits as hard as this one.

Pulp – Avengers

You might not see it at first, but this ragtag crew is none other than Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, The Avengers! This build focuses on mother of the year, Wanda Maximoff, granting everyone a 19 defense via Defend. In addition, we have Manifold handing out Combat Reflexes, making them a 21 defense up close. He also serves as a taxi with Passenger: 2, keeping the squad together. Worried about range? Well, Dr. Strange has you covered! With the defense ability Shielding My Allies, he’s able to hand out Energy/Shield/Deflection to everyone adjacent. For offense, Blue Marvel packs a punch with the combination of Pulse Wave and Force Blast. He is also great to place in front of your team as his trait allows him to heal one click after being hit by a ranged attack. To add to that, Party Thor brings the thunder with another use of Pulse Wave that also hands out action tokens to hit characters. Capping off the build, Shangi-Chi hits hard up close with triple target Charge, Flurry and Exploit Weakness.
