Adepticon 2024 is in the books and HeroClix events were a huge success! New figures were given away for the very first time, a brand-new sealed format made its debut, and champions were awarded their medals!

Many players were in attendance for the chance to be among the first to get their hands on some of the debut promos of the weekend: King Arthur 3000 AD, Broadsword Construct, Old King Thor, and Iceman!

In order to crown a Battle Royale Champion, tournament staff tracked individual performance across the entire weekend. Over the course of the convention, Jay Patel ran away with the Battle Royale title. Jay made the trip from Seattle, where he runs events at Uncle’s Games (Redmond Town Center location). He navigated tables full of Chases and other crazy pulls, but none were able to catch him, and he took the title as well as a medal commemorating his victory. Congrats, Jay!

One of the things players love about sealed play compared to Battle Royales is that they get to see more figures when constructing their team. Channeling that energy, a new format was born: Super-Charged Sealed! Players had the chance to open 3 boosters from 2 different sets and build the best team they could manage to play a 400-point heads-up match. If you missed out, don’t worry: Super-Charged Sealed was popular and we’ll be running it at future WizKids events!

Saturday was the main event; the Adepticon 2024 HeroClix Championship. 47 contenders from around the country sat down to battle. Dial H provided feature match coverage throughout the tournament. There were wild and weird teams across the top tables, and Iconix Kong was everywhere. After 6 rounds, a top 8 loaded with established tournament players and World Champs emerged to return on Sunday for the playoff rounds. Check out the top 16 teams at HCUnits.

Matt Reed won the Fellowship Award for the Championship for a combination of sportsmanship and exuding warmth and generosity to his fellow players. He also brought an innovative and fun team to the tournament; utilizing Master Mold to crank out an army of Scott Porters. Matt made the trip to Adepticon from Arkansas, where he regularly plays at Games Explosion in Springdale and Gear Gaming Store in Fayetteville. Thank you for contributing to our wonderful community, Matt!

After the dust settled on Sunday, Lucas Van Holland walked away with the title, absolutely dominating the competition with a flawless 9-0 record across the two days of play. Watch the finals match in its entirety here (courtesy of Dial H). Lucas hails from Minnesota, but plays at Rainbow Sports in Sioux Falls, just over the Minnesota/South Dakota border. His team was a carefully crafted metagame call; he identified that in the current Modern environment, everyone seemed to be fighting Close, so he leaned into that. Kong did the heavy lifting while Carnage Surfer provided ranged support. It was a very resilient team and clearly a good call for the tournament. Watch a full breakdown of Lucas’s team here. With his win, Lucas earned multiple factory sets, a bye at Worlds, a pile of promos, and the 2024 Adepticon HeroClix Championship medal. Well played, Lucas!

Awesome Adepticon 2024 medals were awarded to the Battle Royale Champ as well as the Fellowship Award winner and top 4 from the HeroClix Championship.

All in all, Adepticon 2024 was a fantastic showing for our community. The WizKids Organized Play Team will soon announce more events on the official WizKids event calendar. We hope to see you this summer!
