Let’s take a look at the fifth of six new box sets that support the upcoming release of Impossible Lands this November: Pathfinder Battles: Impossible Lands – Masters of Magic. Characters featured in this set showcase some of the most powerful beings in Golarion, which include:

Anong Arunak:
In their quest for the sky, the dwarves founded their second Sky Citadel named Dongun Hold, ruled by Anong Arunak. Serving as both a center of commerce and a firearms research center, Dongun Hold is a highly prosperous and eventful city.

Geb:
The infamous necromancer and ruler of the city named after himself, Geb has lived thousands of years in both life and in death through powerful magic. With an obsession for war and conquering his archrival Nex, their centuries-long feud has caused the creation of the Mana Wastes between their cities. Having risen after death in ghostly form, Geb is unable to find rest until he can be certain of Nex’s demise, if only he can locate him.

Ifrit Pyrochemist (Bestiary 2):
Most ifrits are second-class citizens who serve under the iron heel of the efreeti and their Dominion of Flame, but those born outside the efreet hierarchy or who choose to flee it live lives of passion in search of fame, glory, and power. They can be dangerous and violent, but those who seek more productive roles in a society find inspiration in the way flames flit and dance, and they pride themselves in their skills as acrobats or dancers. Ifrit pyrochemists apply this calling to alchemical teachings, seeing purity in every single bomb thrown or conflagration lit.

Japalisura (Bestiary 3):
Japalisuras have a perverse propensity for extracting embarrassing truths from the universe, using a combination of artifice and prophecy to obscure the truth and corrupt traditional soothsaying. They have a special talent for manipulation—feeding listeners’ worst impulses and prejudices, telling them what their prey most want to hear, and twisting their perceptions to suit the japalisuras’ own ends. All this occurs from behind a veil, though, for japalisuras are grotesque fiends with six arms, infinite faces, and an obsession with the profane.

Manticore Paaridar (Bestiary 3):
Monks dissatisfied with the limits of their humanoid forms and yearning for a shortcut can steal the might from other creatures. These monks become paaridars, amalgamations that blend the features of their former ancestry with the form of another creature. The transformation challenges the limits of the paaridar’s body and soul, demanding continual discipline to maintain control.

Nethys, God of Magic:
Revered as a god-king, Nethys sought to unlock all of the secrets and potential held within the planes and beyond but shattered his own mind from the sheer overload of knowledge. Witnessing all of creation, the secrets of the universe, and the vast expanse of what has been seen and will be seen rent his mind in the same moment he elevated to the status of a god. Nethys gained unlimited power and the skill to utilize it, but at the cost of his core self and mental security. This resulted in a split soul, two sides warring within the same body. One seeks to destroy the world, to purge it through fire and ruin, and to conquer all that exists. The other attempts to protect the world, to elevate and educate, and to release it from its limits.

Nex:
An incredibly powerful wizard king and master of magic, Nex was a natural rival to the great necromancer Geb. After centuries of war, Nex used his power to create his own worlds, demi planes which he could escape to if his life in Golarion was threatened. After suffering a great loss to Geb, Nex escaped to one of his demi planes, never to be seen again for millennia. No one knows if he’s still alive or what he’s doing, but Geb is certain he’s live and well, and remains haunted by the thought of his return.

Rakshasa Maharaja (Bestiary 3):
Rakshasas are evil spirits that cloak themselves in the guises of humanoid creatures, that they might walk unseen among their prey. The most powerful of all rakshasas, maharajas form very rarely, never more than once or twice a century, and only from the reincarnated spirits of other powerful and wicked rakshasas. Each maharaja rakshasa is unique and boasts their own selection of spells. All are generally humanoid save for their many heads, which always number at least four and can range up to a dozen. One of these heads tends to be humanoid, while the others take the forms of cats, snakes, and other predatory animals.

If you’re looking for unique characters for major plotlines of your story, or just some seriously dangerous enemies to encounter, then the Masters of Magic are a perfect fit!
