Greetings HeroClix Fans!<\/p>\n

Today we have a team building and strategy article featuring villains with the\u00a0Sinister Syndicate\u00a0<\/em>keyword from the new\u00a0Marvel HeroClix:<\/strong>\u00a0Superior Foes of Spider-Man\u00a0<\/strong>set.<\/p>\n

The recent trend in set and figure design has been to create more figures with character-specific utility at lower point costs to give players greater options in standard 300 point format games. This creates an endless array of combinations even if we stick to certain well represented keywords for team building. The\u00a0Sinister Syndicate<\/em>\u00a0keyword is one such example.<\/p>\n

There are 20 figures in the\u00a0Superior Foes of Spider-Man<\/strong>\u00a0set alone that have the\u00a0Sinister Syndicate\u00a0<\/em>keyword. Here we\u2019ll highlight some of those figures to build a team that uses those numbers to its advantage, demonstrates the value of the strategic use of supportive powers, and highlights the fun of powers that give characters a certain comic-accurate flavor.<\/p>\n

First, here is what the team build looks like, point values listed before the character:<\/p>\n

\n+7 to Initiative Map Roll, 3 uses of Themed Team Probability Control\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Right away we see that 7 characters is a huge force to be fielding. With an initiative bonus of +7 you should be picking the map in most games. For this team you\u2019ll want a map that keeps things close together and limits long range fire, as most of these characters will do their best work if you can keep opposing figures within 5 squares of them. In a 300 point game you should almost always be making the most of your 3 actions per turn; whether that means using\u00a0Overdrive\u00a0<\/strong>and his\u00a0Charged Up<\/strong>\u00a0vehicle to move around 4 teammates or making use of the smartest\u00a0Thugs\u00a0<\/strong>ever (more on those later). You should have enough options available to overwhelm even the toughest opponents with sheer numbers. Also note that one of the features that helps this team work so well together is that most of them have the\u00a0Sinister Syndicate<\/em>\u00a0team ability, which lets you share an unmodified attack value between adjacent friendly characters, if they both have the ability. You can even have a chain of friendly characters with the ability and share the same value among all of them. Don\u2019t forget to share\u00a0Doctor Octopus\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0starting 11 attack value with the likes of\u00a0Stilt-Man<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0Scorpion<\/strong>\u00a0or evenNorman Osborn<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s get to the strategy.<\/p>\n

\"Marvel<\/a><\/p>\n

Starting with the most basic of building blocks, let\u2019s take a look at the pair of lowly\u00a0Thugs.\u00a0<\/strong>We see their traitAlways For Hire<\/em>\u00a0lets this team qualify as a\u00a0Themed Team,<\/em>\u00a0even though they lack the\u00a0Sinister Syndicate<\/em>keyword on their card. The only benefit they do not receive is that they cannot be given action tokens to use the\u00a0Themed Team Probability Control<\/em>. The fact that they each have four clicks of life for 10 points, however, makes our team leader much more interesting, and threatening!<\/p>\n

\"Marvel<\/a><\/p>\n

The Many-Armed Menace\u00a0Doctor Octopus<\/strong>, using his attack special\u00a0Mentally-Controlled Tentacles<\/em>, can stand right behind his two\u00a0Thug<\/strong>\u00a0bodyguards and still make close attacks using\u00a0Giant Reach: 3.<\/em>\u00a0He can ignore any character bases for line of fire, softening the target up so the\u00a0Thugs<\/strong>\u00a0can have a better chance of hitting something or he can stand in front and block for his teammates, with a solid 18 defense value with\u00a0Energy Shield\/Deflection,<\/em>\u00a0while making use of his\u00a0Sinister Mastermind<\/em>\u00a0special on damage that gives him\u00a0Leadership\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Outwit<\/em>. Additionally, up to two friendly adjacent characters can use\u00a0Outwit\u00a0<\/em>as a power action. With up to 3\u00a0Outwits,<\/em>\u00a0you can lock down quite a few nasty powers your opponent is throwing at you.<\/p>\n

\"Marvel<\/a><\/p>\n

Shifting gears to talk about team mobility, positioning on the battlefield is paramount when running so many figures.\u00a0Overdrive\u2019s\u00a0<\/strong>trait\u00a0The World Is My Getaway Vehicle\u00a0<\/em>allows him to turn a standard object into a vehicle that can carry 4 friendly characters as a free action, as referenced on the bottom of his card. On turn one you can get your team into position, then place an object right in front of your starting area and be sure\u00a0Overdrive<\/strong>is close to it. Give him a free action to turn the object into a\u00a0Charged Up<\/strong>\u00a0vehicle and then you can use an action to become its pilot. The new vehicle can now carry up to 4 friendly characters 11 squares, ignoring hindering terrain as vehicles inherently do, and\u00a0Sidestep<\/em>\u00a0an additional 2. Don\u2019t forget the other updated rules for vehicles: you can give the vehicle a free action to copy the attack and damage values of its pilot and a free action to copy one of the pilot\u2019s attack or damage powers. In the case of\u00a0Overdrive<\/strong>, that means making use of\u00a0Empower\u00a0<\/em>so\u00a0Doc Ock<\/strong>,\u00a0Stilt-Man<\/strong>, and\u00a0Scorpion<\/strong>\u00a0make the most out of\u00a0Giant Reach<\/em>. You can have the\u00a0Doc\u00a0<\/strong>and his\u00a0Thugs<\/strong>\u00a0and either\u00a0Scorpion<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0Norman<\/strong>\u00a0all along for the ride.\u00a0Stilt-Man<\/strong>\u00a0is too big to fit in the passenger seat however. Speaking of\u00a0Stilt-Man<\/strong>\u2026.<\/p>\n

\"Marvel<\/a><\/p>\n

With the few extra attachments for an additional 15 points, giving a total of 4\u00a0Leg Extensions<\/em>,\u00a0Stilt-Man<\/strong>\u00a0will have the\u00a0Colossal<\/em>\u00a0damage symbol. The\u00a0Colossal\u00a0<\/em>symbol offers up several advantages like\u00a0Giant Reach: 3<\/em>, bonuses for breakaway rolls, but especially his special damage power\u00a0Colossal Retaliation: Hydraulic Leg Smash<\/em>.\u00a0Stilt-Man<\/strong>\u00a0has the potential for a free attack when a friendly character is damaged by an opponent\u2019s attack. When you do use it, do your best to place him next to\u00a0Overdrive\u00a0<\/strong>to benefit from\u00a0Empower\u00a0<\/em>and\/or a chain of characters connecting him to\u00a0Doctor Octopus<\/strong>\u00a0to borrow his 11 attack value. What more can you ask for from your secondary attacker?<\/p>\n

\"Marvel<\/a><\/p>\n

With our next\u00a0Sinister Syndicate<\/em>\u00a0attack piece, you might be noticing a theme within a theme that is using nimble positioning to take excessive advantage of\u00a0Giant Reach: 3<\/em>.\u00a0Scorpion<\/strong>\u00a0emphasizes that mobility with his\u00a0Scorpion Suit<\/em>\u00a0movement special, giving him the use of\u00a0Leap\/Climb<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Sidestep<\/em>. His damage special\u00a0Tail Whip<\/em>\u00a0really makes him a close combat threat with the aforementioned\u00a0Giant Reach: 3\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Close Combat Expert<\/em>. Again, with the right teamwork,\u00a0Overdrive\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0Empower\u00a0<\/em>and the\u00a0Octopus\u2019<\/strong>\u00a0sharable 11 attack put\u00a0Scorpion<\/strong>\u00a0over the edge. We have one more supporting role figure bankrolling this team to wrap it all up,\u00a0Norman Osborn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"Marvel<\/a><\/p>\n

Keep\u00a0Norman<\/strong>\u00a0in the shadows and you\u2019ll have another source of\u00a0Outwit<\/em>, a sneaky ranged attack harasser, and your best option for using your 3\u00a0Themed Team Probability Controls.<\/em>\u00a0Going beyond the obvious, we can make use of his trait,\u00a0Still Wearing The Mask Underneath<\/em>, that lets him choose a power possessed by a\u00a0Green Goblin<\/strong>\u00a0figure on your sideline. So for reference\u2026.<\/p>\n

\"Marvel<\/a><\/p>\n

You have two excellent options for\u00a0Norman\u00a0<\/strong>to copy just with his alter ego\u2019s two specials on defense and damage. You could pick\u00a0Everyone\u2019s A Pawn<\/em>\u00a0giving him\u00a0Mastermind<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Toughness<\/em>\u00a0and allowing you to dump the damage he receives onto your\u00a0Thugs<\/strong>\u00a0to keep him around. You could also pick\u00a0A Team\u2026Of Incompetents I Have To Show The Way\u00a0<\/em>giving him\u00a0Enhancement<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Perplex<\/em>, both of which could help your\u00a0Octopus<\/strong>\u00a0and his pair of\u00a0Thugs<\/strong>\u00a0land some ranged attack damage if the opponent is happening to stay out of your (Giant<\/em>) reach.<\/p>\n

Old Webhead and his friends have their work cut out for them if they want to stop whatever evil plans this\u00a0Sinister Syndicate\u00a0<\/em>team is hatching. Boosted attacks and damage, long close combat reaches, convenient mobility options, a possible 4\u00a0Outwits<\/em>, extra metal appendages all over the place, and just the fun factor of unleashing this much chaos on the map in a 300 point game.<\/p>\n
