One of the exciting features of HeroClix is your ability to play any way that you\u2019d like; you just need someone to play with who will enjoy the game in the same way.<\/p>\n

As the designers and publishers of the game, WizKids tries to optimize for a variety of experiences so that HeroClix is as enjoyable as possible to a wide audience. Some miniatures are going to excel in Battle Royales, others are more suited to Constructed play.<\/p>\n

There are an incredible number of ways that you could play with HeroClix teams you\u2019ve constructed in advance. WizKids has designed these formats with specific goals in mind, and we wanted to elaborate on them today.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Modern Age<\/h1><\/div>

First and foremost, the metagame of Modern Age HeroClix changes the most rapidly. It changes when new booster sets release, it changes when standalone Iconix release, and it changes as minis enter the game from Organized Play as well.
\nIf you\u2019re interested in competitive play, it also has the most recent releases at the forefront. So if you\u2019re new, or maybe you haven\u2019t collected HeroClix in a while, it will be relatively easy to collect game pieces to catch up to the metagame.
\nModern Age is such a standard or default way to think about Constructed HeroClix that other formats invariably exist in contrast to Modern Age \u2013 and that\u2019s okay!<\/p>\n<\/div>

Silver Age<\/h1><\/div>

Silver Age allows players to combine some of their newest HeroClix with some of their oldest. August of 2016 was the beginning of a new character card layout (one that we\u2019ve improved on since). The rules templating of that time mostly matches modern wording, with some exceptions. There was bound to be a cutoff between the older times and more recent ones, and it just happened to be then.<\/p>\n

Silver Age is perfect for players who enjoy perfecting their strategy over a long time. Perhaps you enjoy the martial arts in real life, and you\u2019d enjoy seeing your Martial Artist theme team KO the Greek Pantheon! Whatever your favorite team might look like, you\u2019ll have the chance to refine your tactics over months or even years without your favorite pieces leaving the format.<\/p>\n

No more than half of your Silver Age team can consist of Modern Age game pieces. Early on in the existence of Silver Age, the format resembled Modern Age with stronger versions of the same combos instead of explorations of new territory. Player feedback made it clear that a change was needed, and we\u2019re excited at the creativity that this approach has unlocked with our players.<\/p>\n

As game pieces rotate out of Modern Age, they\u2019ll gain fresh life in Silver Age, unlocking new teams with existing features. This method for shaking up a non-rotating format, without banning game pieces, is special and distinctive to HeroClix!<\/p>\n<\/div>

Silver Age Pulp<\/h1><\/div>

Silver Age Pulp is a format that is about to see some major support from our 3rd party tournament partners. There might be some assumptions about what it will or won\u2019t be \u2013 ultimately, as everyone (WizKids included) better understands what is fun and compelling about Silver Age Pulp, the answer might be subject to some modifications. For now our goal is to keep HeroClix easier to understand, even if it means that Silver Age Pulp teams have a few more restrictions.<\/p>\n

  1. If a game piece is banned in Silver Age, it is banned in Silver Age Pulp. Additional game pieces may be banned as well, since they might not be part of a healthy and fun metagame.<\/li>\n
  2. No more than half of your force may consist of Modern Age legal game pieces. Usually, players think about this in terms of 200-points as half of 400-points. This requirement consistently being half your force adds clarity to short descriptions of variations on Silver Age. For example, 1000-point Silver Age or 300-point Silver Age Pulp.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Our goal for Silver Age Pulp is to provide a format that is the best of both worlds \u2013 widely accessible and incredibly satisfying for fans who are interested in mastering their favorite strategy over many, slowly changing metagames.<\/p>\n<\/div>
