Welcome to an all-new Design Insights series! This time we’re cracking open Marvel HeroClix: Black Panther and taking a look at how we brought Marvel’s most technologically advanced nation to HeroClix. And, of course, where else could we start than with the metal that makes Wakanda’s tech possible: Vibranium!<\/p>\n<\/div>

Fresh From The Mines<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

From the moment the design team began to work on Black Panther, how to handle Vibranium was at the top of our list. At first, we looked at traits that would reward players for filling their team with Wakanda keyword characters. The more Wakanda characters that were on your force, the better the payoff would be. The trait played well mechanically, but its flavor was tenuous. Running a bunch of low-cost generics like Wakandan Scientist certainly implied<\/em> that your team was getting souped-up Vibranium tech, but it didn’t really feel<\/em> like it.<\/p>\n

So, we moved on to the next idea: interpret Vibranium as a kind of terrain marker, like the Grave terrain markers, and allow some Wakandan characters to generate or destroy the terrain markers for bonuses. This had fantastic flavor, and the resource management angle allowed for some really cool gameplay. However, the design team initially identified two issues:<\/p>\n
