Dear HeroClix™ Players,
The 2017 Origins Game Fair (June 14-18, 2017) — home of the 2017 HeroClix World Championship — is coming up in just under a month now. We wanted to take this opportunity to inform players about what they’ll need to know to compete and some other details about Origins.
WizKids at Origins
Here you’ll find the most commonly needed information for players attending Origins. We’ve already announced this information, so it may be a reminder for some. This page details our events at Origins, the event schedule, and the convention exclusives we’ll have for sale.
WizKids Fan Appreciation
Similar to last year, we’ll be having a fan appreciation event where fans can come for a sneak peek into upcoming releases, ask questions, and win cool prizes. This year, the Fan Apprecation Presentation will take place on Friday, June 16th at 8:30 PM at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Room A 216. Seats are limited and on a first-come, first-served basis. We hope to see you there!
Modern Age Legal HeroClix Releases
Here, HeroClix players can find a complete list of all Modern Age game elements. As per our stated policy on the “List of Modern Age Legal HeroClix Releases” found on the HeroClix Rules Question Forum:
For WizKids Sponsored Tournaments, HeroClix game elements released at retail are not legal in a Constructed Event until one (1) week after the release date. Exclusive Heroclix game elements released at conventions and/or official tournaments and storyline organized play and/or monthly organized play game elements are not legal in a Constructed Event until one (1) week after the end of the first month the game elements were available.
For constructed events at the 2017 Origins Game Fair— including the 2017 HeroClix World Championship— this means that any retail HeroClix releases that release on or before June 7, 2017 will be considered Modern Age and legal for use in these events.
Modern Age Legal Map List
Here, HeroClix players can find a list of HeroClix maps that are Modern Age. The list also indicates any Modern Age maps that are NOT legal for use at official WizKids events by listing those maps in red.
Players attending Origins, please note: players playing in the 2017 HeroClix World Championship and other constructed events are expected to bring their own maps for these events. Just because a map is listed on the Modern Age Legal Map list does NOT mean that it will be provided. If you are building a team/strategy that includes using specific maps, be sure that you have that map with you at the event.
The map list was recently updated, and there is one significant change to this list— in the past, if a map was deemed to not be legal for tournament play, both named playable sides of the map (for double-sided printed maps) were restricted. With the most recent update of this list, we have separated out the different named playable sides of the maps and determined individually if each named side is or is not legal for use at official WizKids events. As an example, the newly added Marvel HeroClix: Avengers/Defenders War Dark Dimension (Outdoor)/Wakanda (Outdoor) map shows only the Dark Dimension (Outdoor) map listed in red. So, the Dark Dimension side of the Marvel HeroClix: Avengers/Defenders War map is NOT legal for use at an official WizKids event, but the Wakanda (Outdoor) side of the map is legal for use.
Modern Age Game Elements Errata & Clarifications
The “Modern Age Game Elements Errata & Clarifications” thread found on the HeroClix Rules Question Forum is the place to find the most current listing of Errata & Clarifications on figures and game elements.
Some players have observed a delay on the availability of the Marvel HeroClix: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Gravity Feed in many Mass Market stores. Due to the potential for the set to not be universally available to players, we’re taking the pro-active step to disallow the Mass Market exclusive figures (collector numbers 11, 12, 13, 14, 16) from tournament play at Origins. The rest of the set will be allowed for tournament play, as it is available in the core hobby retail exclusive.
Trading for Marvel HeroClix: Deadpool & X-Force
Due to an isolated collation issue, some regions may have received duplicate cases of Marvel HeroClix: Deadpool and X-Force. We’re providing a trading system at Origins to diversify the figures in areas affected by this issue. Check here for more details.
Thank you! We look forward to seeing you at Origins Game Fair on June 14-18, 2017 in Columbus, OH!
