{"id":1264,"date":"2013-11-13T12:21:31","date_gmt":"2013-11-13T12:21:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/67272bb316.nxcli.io\/attackwing\/?p=1264"},"modified":"2016-10-13T13:17:35","modified_gmt":"2016-10-13T17:17:35","slug":"star-trek-attack-wing-wave-2-preview-the-koranak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/wizkids.com\/attackwing\/2013\/11\/13\/star-trek-attack-wing-wave-2-preview-the-koranak\/","title":{"rendered":"Star Trek: Attack Wing Wave 2 Preview: the Koranak!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Star Trek: Attack Wing<\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\">Koranak\/Keldon Class<\/h3>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">2 of 4 Wave\u00a02 Star Trek: Attack Wing Expansion Packs<\/h2>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Releases:\u00a0December 2013<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6157\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/STAW-71275-CARDASSIAN-KELDON-Class-Highres.jpg\" alt=\"STAW 71275 CARDASSIAN KELDON Class Highres\" width=\"331\" height=\"331\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Welcome back to the continuing sneak peak of the expansion packs for Wave 2 of Star Trek: Attack Wing.\u00a0 This week we will be looking into the upcoming heavy hitter for the Dominion: the <b><i>Koranak<\/i><\/b>.\u00a0\u00a0 The named version of the Keldon Class starship comes in at 26 points with a special ability allowing you to spend a Scan token to target two different ships with its Primary Weapon at -2 attack dice each.\u00a0 With <i>Gul Dukat<\/i> as captain, this is not such a bad option since he can back up the effectiveness of the ship by allowing a player to perform an Evasive Maneuver or Battle Station action as a free action.\u00a0 <i>Gul Evek<\/i> is also a good choice as captain as he allows a player to re-roll all of their blank results one time when defending.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6162\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Koranak.jpg\" alt=\"Koranak\" width=\"203\" height=\"264\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6160\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Gul-Dukat.jpg\" alt=\"Gul Dukat\" width=\"203\" height=\"261\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6161\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Gul-Evek.jpg\" alt=\"Gul Evek\" width=\"203\" height=\"261\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Captains and Special\u00a0Abilities aside, let\u2019s point out a few Star Trek: Attack Wing \u201cfirsts\u201d\u2014<\/p>\n<p>1) The <em><strong>Koranak<\/strong> <\/em>is the only ship in the game so far with a Primary Weapon of 5 <b><i>and<\/i><\/b>\u00a0a 180\u02da firing arc.<\/p>\n<p>2) The <em><strong>Koranak<\/strong> <\/em>is also the only ship in the game so far with a Primary Weapon of 5 <b><i>and<\/i><\/b>\u00a0a Battle Stations Action in its Action Bar (although other ships can add Battle Stations through the use of Captains \/ Upgrades).<\/p>\n<p>3) The <em><strong>Koranak<\/strong> <\/em>is the only ship so far that uses the \u201c4 Bank\u201d Maneuver Template.<\/p>\n<p>The <b><i>Koranak<\/i><\/b> expansion also has several great upgrades for the Dominion player\u2019s arsenal.\u00a0 <i>Boheeka<\/i>, the crew upgrade for the set, allows a player to convert one blank result into a hit result if the ship has a Battle Station token beside it\u2026 so he is going to see quite a bit of play alongside <i>Gul Dukat<\/i>.\u00a0 The five attack dice <i>Enhanced Weaponry<\/i> is a great Weapon Upgrade to use as well since you add one attack die if fired from a Keldon Class ship.\u00a0 The <i>Dorsal Weapons Array<\/i> will also provide additional functionality as it will allow the Dominion player the ability to add a 3 attack dice, 360 degree attack to any of their ships.\u00a0 Unlike the 360 degree firing ability of the <b><i>U.S.S. Enterprise-D<\/i><\/b>, this upgrade can actually be used at range 1-3!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6158\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Crew_Boheeka.jpg\" alt=\"Crew_Boheeka\" width=\"205\" height=\"264\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6166\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Weapon_EnhancedWeaponry.jpg\" alt=\"Weapon_EnhancedWeaponry\" width=\"205\" height=\"264\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6165\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Weapon_DorsalWeapon.jpg\" alt=\"Weapon_DorsalWeapon\" width=\"205\" height=\"264\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The synergy continues with the Tech Upgrades: <i>Tetryon Emissions<\/i> and <i>Cloaking Device<\/i>.\u00a0 Similar to the <i>Cloaking Device<\/i> from the <b><i>U.S.S. Defiant<\/i><\/b> expansion, the Dominion version comes in as a tech upgrade which must be disabled to use.\u00a0 It allows the player to perform the Sensor Echo action even when the card is disabled.\u00a0 Defensive capabilities seem to be the flavor of the day for Tech as the <i>Tetryon Emissions<\/i> card can be disabled as an action to add +3 defense dice each time a ship has to defend that round.\u00a0 If those are not enough to keep a ship in the battle, players can also look to the Elite Talent upgrade: <i>Captured Intelligence<\/i>.\u00a0 This card can be discarded and the ship gets the benefit of placing an Evasive Maneuver token beside the ship (as long as it does not have one already) and also adding one defense die every time the ship has to defend that round.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6164\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Tech_TetryonEmissions.jpg\" alt=\"Tech_TetryonEmissions\" width=\"201\" height=\"257\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6163\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Tech_CloakingDevice.jpg\" alt=\"Tech_CloakingDevice\" width=\"201\" height=\"257\" \/> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6159\" src=\"http:\/\/wizkidsgames.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Elite_Captured-Intelligence.jpg\" alt=\"Elite_Captured Intelligence\" width=\"201\" height=\"257\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As players can see, the <b><i>Koranak<\/i><\/b> expansion pack is a prime example of a ship where card combos can make a fleet\u2014 each of the Captains can enhance the effectiveness of the ship and adding specific upgrades depending on which Captain you choose will make the ship even more potent.\u00a0 The Dominon player will need an extremely effective fleet if they hope to defeat the Federation player while tackling the <i>Protect The Orias System<\/i> mission included in the expansion.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of missions, make sure you come back for a little bit of cat and mouse fun as we explore the <b><i>R.I.S.
