This November, WizKids/NECA will launch the second part of a three-part storyline organized play event based on the Klingon Civil War as seen on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The second month of the Star Trek: Attack Wing – Klingon Civil War is entitled The Battle of Mempa.

The forces that remain loyal to Gowron and the forces of the House of Duras are engaging in the Mempa system and strong reinforcements will be the key to victory. Whoever wins this battle will gain control over the Mempa Sector and will have a decisive hold over the system. Will your reinforcements arrive in time, or will you be routed by your opponent?

SET UP

Set up for this scenario begins by placing 1 Objective Token in the NE corner of the play area, so that there is exactly 8” between it and the N and E edges of the play area.  Next, place 1 Objective Token in the NW corner of the play area, so that there is exactly 8” between it and the N and W edges of the play area. Then, place 1 Objective Token in the SE corner of the play area, so that there is exactly 8” between it and the S and E edges of the play area. Lastly, place 1 Objective Token in the SW corner of the play area, so that there is exactly 8” between it and the S and W edges of the play area.

Objective Tokens represent points in space and are only used for reference. They may be fired through and ships may be moved onto or through them with no penalties.

Each player begins the game with only one of his/her ships in the play area. This ship is set up in a 4” x 8” area centered E to W along the N and S edges of the play area.

All of the other ships begin the game on top of their respective Ship Cards. These ships are all considered “Reinforcement Ships”. Place a Mission Token on top of each of these Ship Cards.

KLINGON FLEET

Each player must include at least 1 Klingon Card (Ship, Captain, Admiral or Upgrade) in his/her fleet.

Every ship in a player’s fleet costs -2 SP if that ship is either a Klingon ship or a non-Klingon ship with at least one Klingon card attached to it.

Note: This cost reduction is not cumulative. The maximum cost reduction per ship is -2 SP.

SECTORS

The play area is divided into 4 sectors and the Objective Tokens in the corners of the play area represent the center of each sector. A ship is considered to be in a sector if it is within Range 2 of an Objective Token. If any ship is within Range 2 of two different Objective Tokens, the player must choose which sector it is in with regards to controlling a sector.

CONTROLLING A SECTOR

During the Planning Phase, the player with the most ships in a sector controls that sector. If the controlling player does not already have one of his/her Mission Tokens on that sector’s Objective Token, that player may bring one of his/her Reinforcement Ships into play in that sector. If both players have an equal amount of ships in a sector, neither player controls the sector and no reinforcement ships can be brought into that sector that round.

REINFORCEMENT SHIPS

Reinforcement Ships that are brought into play are set up during the Planning Phase. A Reinforcement Ship sets up in the corner of that player’s controlled sector, but not within Range 1 of an opposing player’s ship.

Once a Reinforcement Ship is claimed in a sector, the controlling player removes the Mission Token from that ship’s Ship Card and places it on the Objective Token in that sector. Each player may only bring one Reinforcement Ship into play from each sector.

VICTORY CONDITIONS/OBJECTIVE

The game ends normally when one player is eliminated or time is called. At the end of the game, each player gains +5 Fleet Points for each of his/her Reinforcement Ships that entered the play area. The player that brought the most Reinforcement Ships into play gains an additional +10 Fleet Points.

PARTICIPATION PRIZE

Every player who shows up and plays in The Battle of Mempa event gets a resource as a participation prize. The resource for this event is Auxiliary Power. At the start of the battle, place 5 Auxiliary Power Tokens on top of this card. Once per round, one ship in your fleet may use one of the following abilities: 1) Roll 1 extra attack or defense die, OR 2) Place one Evade Token beside your ship (even if there is one already there), OR 3) Repair 1 Shield Token. If you use any of these abilities, remove one Auxiliary Power Token from this card and place it beside the ship that used the ability. Discard this card when there are no more Auxiliary Power Tokens on this card.

Auxiliary Power is a resource that gives you options. For only 5 SP, you can have +1 attack or defense dice, gain an Evade Token or repair one Shield Token when you need it the most.

If you win The Battle of Mempa event, or you get the fellowship award, you will go home with the I.K.S. Hegh’Ta Prize Pack. The I.K.S. Hegh’Ta is a Klingon K’vort Class Ship that gains a shield and a crew slot, compared to generic version of the ship. The special ability for the I.K.S. Hegh’Ta allows you to give +1 defense die to a friendly ship within Range 1 each time it defends. This ability may only be used for 1 friendly ship per round.

Kurn, who is both Worf’s brother and a supporter of Gowron during the Klingon Civil War, is the Captain for this prize pack. As an Action, Kurn may roll 2 attack dice if you are within Range 1 of an Obstacle. Every ship within Range 1 of the Obstacle suffers damage as normal for each [hit] or [critical hit] result. Ships do not roll defense dice against this. Clearly Kurn is out to do serious damage, even if it means hurting himself in the process. Consider using a card combo that allows you to repair Shields or Hull to try and maximize Kurn’s ability while healing your own ship.

On My Command is an Elite Talent that allows you to discard this card when it is your turn to attack in the Combat Phase and delay your attack until after all other ships have completed their attacks. If you do so, roll +2 attack dice for your first attack during the round you use this ability. This Elite Talent is particularly useful when no other ships can target your ship or when ships with lower Captain Skill are a minimal threat. Use On My Command to boost your attack dice and blow your opponent off the map.

Toral, the illegitimate son of Duras, enters the Klingon Civil War as a Crew Upgrade in this prize pack. During the Modify Defense Dice Step, you may discard this card to re-roll up to 2 of your defense dice. If this card is deployed to a Klingon ship, you may disable it instead of discarding it. This new crew card adds another member to the House of Duras; just make sure to keep him away from Worf.

Auxiliary Power to Shields is a Tech Upgrade that, when defending, allows you to immediately repair up to two of your Shields that were just destroyed by that attack. Place 1 Auxiliary Power Token beside your ship for each Shield Token you repaired with this ability. Auxiliary Power to Shields is an amazing upgrade because it triggers immediately after your Shields are lost. For only 4 SP why not give this new Tech Upgrade a try?
